About the Author
I'm a junior at Michigan State University. I'm a genetics major who hopes to go into medical school. The website was prompted from thoughts in my ISS 310 class, Industrialized Food. Below are a few fun facts about me.

About the Class
ISS is a class offered at Michigan State University that talks about how our food culture has changed. The class is very interesting, and I'd definitly recommend it.
After taking the class I've learned new things about food in our society, and how my food choices affect me and my community. I've even conviced my family to change some of their food choices because of this class.
I am no longer a mindless drone of the food industry. I question. I research. I learn. All because of this class. If you want to make yourself think about not only what's on your plate, but where it came from, and how the choices you make impact the community, take the class, you won't regret it.

Gnocchi: The Recipe Experence
Recently, I found a recipe for homemade gnocchi that I wanted to try out. The cooking experience was very different than what I expected. It was far easier to make than I anticipated.
The recipe was simple enough, just three ingredients long and I figured it would take about 30 minutes to make, wow was I wrong.
Starting off, I overestimated how long it took to boil potatoes and ended up needing to put them back in the pot of water and wait a little further. After finally getting the potatoes to the optimal mashing point, I also realized I underestimated how much space mashing potatoes actually took (silly simple chef that I am).
After working out that problem, I found the recipe easy enough to follow: two parts flour and potatoes to one part egg. Making and rolling the dough was very easy, and after the dough was made into the correct shape, boiling took no time at all.
The most shocking thing about this entire experience was how filling the meal was. I only had one bowlful and it filled me up for the rest of the night.
Overall I would recommend this recipe to anyone who wants a simple way to make a delicious meal. Pair it with some simple tomato sauce and your whole family will thank you for it.
